Yvonne Theresa Edgerly, 93, of Sanford, Maine, passed away April 12, 2023, with her family by her side.
She was born to the late Alfred Pelletier and Alice Lizotte, April 2, 1930. Though her parents were from Canada, she was born and raised in Springvale until her parents passed at an early age and she was raised at the convent in Biddeford, Maine.
At the age of 20, she had a difficult decision to make, either to stay in the convent and become a nun or leave. Her decision was to leave and marry her teenage sweetheart the late Norman Edgerly Jr. on October 30, 1950, and the lived together on Grammar Road, Sanford for seventy-two years where they raised their four children Dennis Edgerly, Linda Stone, Bruce Edgerly, and David Edgerly. She is survived by 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Yvonne loved living on the 52-acre farm where she made her own butter, canned fruits, and vegetables. She loved cooking and baking. Though there were times when the neighbors had to let her know that dinner was ready because they could hear the smoke alarm going off. She was known for her famous pork pies that locals loved.
She worked in shoe factories her entire work career from Sanford to Somersworth, NH. Though she never had a drivers license, she always found ways to make it to work to support her family. She always put her family needs above hers and she was – and always will be – remembered, loved, and missed.
Graveside services will be held May 30th at 10:00 a.m. at Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery, 83 Stanley Road, Shapleigh, ME.
