Walter Woodward, 89, of Waterboro, passed peacefully in the morning of Wednesday, January 26, 2022, surrounded by his beloved wife and family. He was born on September 2, 1932, in Waterboro, Maine, to the late Everett and Cecile Woodward; he was one of eight children. Walter was a lifelong resident of Waterboro and attended Waterboro schools. He joined the U.S. Army when he was 22 years old and served in the U.S. National Guard for several years following. He then worked at the Waterboro Leather Mill for 26 years, and eventually retired from his long-time job at Cyro. There was nothing that meant more to Walter than his family; he was extremely passionate about family gatherings, and it brought him so much joy. His family was what made him the proudest. Each year Walter had a beautiful garden that he spent lots of time taking care of. He especially enjoyed helping with his daughter’s garden. Walter’s enthusiasm and knowledge of this was extraordinary. He was also a huge Boston Celtics fan, never letting a game go unwatched. Some of his hobbies back in the day included collecting old bottles and coins, as well as being part of a bowling league with his wife. Walter is survived by his wife, Lorraine (Labbe) Woodward, and five children: Debbie Charrette and husband Dan of Alfred; Dolly Dyer and husband Randy of Hollis; Doreen Woodward and partner Victoria Stevens of Waterboro; Denny Woodward of Waterboro, and Bruce Woodward and wife Elaine of Lyman. He is also survived by five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Walter was predeceased by his parents, Everett & Cecile Woodward, brothers Elwin, Kenneth, and Bernard, and sisters Wanita, Christine Day, Barbara LaCroix, and Bernette Murphy. Friends and family are invited to attend visiting hours at North Waterboro Baptist Church on Friday, February 4, 2022 from 10 – 11 a.m. with a memorial service immediately following. We kindly ask that you wear a mask while attending the services. Committal prayers and burial will be later in the spring. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Waterboro General Assistance Program—the Fuel Assistance fund, 24 Town House Road, East Waterboro, ME 04030.
