Obituary for Travis Eugene DeWitt

November 11, 1981 - February 1, 2022 Service Date: An intimate Graveside Service will be held later in the spring. Travis E. DeWitt, 40, a longtime resident of Waterboro, died February 1, 2022, in Portland, Me. Travis was born on November 11, 1981, in Sanford. He was the son of late Robert J. DeWitt and Diane D. White (Kerrigan). Travis was raised between Essex, Ma. and Waterboro, Me. He graduated from Hamilton-Wenham Highschool in 2000 and went on and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in the field of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maine Orono in 2005. As a child, Trav’s mind and body were in perpetual motion. He wanted to know how everything worked by taking anything of interest apart. He told his parents he was going to be a “Flashlight Mechanic!” when he grew up. Travis became a co-owner of the family business, TK Machining Inc., in Waterboro, after the passing of his father. Travis loved children and was known for making memories with his niece and nephews that only an uncle could get away with! As an adventure seeker, he had an innate ability to gather complete strangers together and make memorable moments and create friendships. Travis was the tree arborist without a license. He never hesitated to climb a tree with his gear. He had no fear and loved the adrenaline rush. His love of the outdoors included mountain biking, snowmobiling, 4 wheeling, and anything else that moved. His love for the outdoors brought him on many camping trips throughout his life. His family favorite was the yearly Hermit Island camping trip in Bath, Me.
He was kind and generous. He would give you his shirt off his back and never asked for anything in return. Travis will be missed dearly by all those whose heart he touched. We know you have been reunited with loved ones who have gone before.
Your family loves and grieves for your spark of light that made our family full and complete. Survivors include his mother, Diane White and husband David; his siblings Kimberly Morse and husband Jeff and their children Aiden and Emma; Daniel and Jeffrey White; Daryl DeWitt and his two sons Austin and Evan; and Jenna DeWitt and her son Deacon; his maternal grandparents Donald and Georgianna Kerrigan; his paternal grandparents Theodore and Joyce DeWitt; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Robert J. DeWitt, his uncle Charles Kerrigan and his loyal furry companion Lola. An intimate Graveside Service will be held later in the spring. In lieu of flowers and with Trav’s love of animals, please consider donating to the Animal Welfare Society, P.O. Box 43, West Kennebunk, ME 04094.
