Obituary for Thomas F. "Tom" Cummings Sr.

Thomas F. Cummings, Sr., passed away on July 30, 2022 at his home in Sanford.

He was born June 4, 1935 in Haverhill, Massachusetts the son of Thomas F. and Harriett (Bartlett) Cummings. Tom was a graduate of Haverhill High School with the Class of 1954.

Thomas was a proud to serve in the United States Marine Corps from 1956 to 1958.

For the last 30 years, Maine has been his home, where he has enjoyed horses, dogs, and cats. He shared a special connection with animals and preferred their company over people!

Tom worked in a variety of stores, antiques shops, including Tom’s Discount Foods at the Airport Plaza in Sanford. Towards the end of his working career, he was a service manager for 13 years with Suburban Propane.

Tom was the consummate “tinker” – he enjoyed painting, plumbing jobs and was a longtime caretaker in York. Along with these jobs he was able to use his assortment of tools and equipment. During the summer months he loved living in his camper at Gregoire’s Campground in Wells.

Tom was blessed to have his good friends Bonnie and Daniel Boisvert, who provided companionship, assistance and a dose of good humor when needed.

Tom is survived by his daughter Robin Bernier and Richard of Barrington, NH; one brother Robert Cummings of California and sister Patricia St. Onge of East Hamstead, NH; four grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Tom was predeceased by his son, Thomas Jr., and Gerald (Teddy) Cummings.

A Graveside Service with military honors will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery, 83 Stanley Road, in Springvale.
