Obituary for Thomas G. Copp

Thomas G. Copp, 75, of Waterboro, passed away on January 18, 2023 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

He was born on September 25, 1947 in Laconia, NH the son of Harold and Rose (Spooner) Copp.

He was a long time resident of Waterboro, although he always said he missed living in New Hampshire.
Tom served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He found healing and renewal working in his yard and spending time with animals.

Tom was a dedicated worker whose main job in the area shoe shops was as a heeler and was paid from his piecework totals for the day and week. He then worked for Horton Seaford where he smoked fish and took care of their shipping orders.

In 2003, Tom married Arleen Dauteuil and they had an outdoor Celtic theme wedding in Waterboro, followed by a camping trip for their honeymoon.

Tom was an animal lover and was known by many as “Dr. Doolittle” – or the “Animal Whisperer.” He had many dogs throughout the years with Brandi being his favorite, a German Shepherd.

Tom enjoyed planting his yearly vegetable garden and tending to his apple trees. He also went prospecting for gold in Byron, Maine with all the necessary equipment including a Sluice Box for dredging in the streams. He was an avid outdoorsman and held membership with the NRA.

Tom will be remembered for his kindness to many friends and neighbors. His family was steadfast and devoted to his care as his health declined. He is now at rest.

Tom is survived by his wife Arleen Copp of Waterboro, his sister Jane Reid, and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Tom’s life will be held when the warm spring days return and all of nature’s wonders bloom and thrive again.
