Sylvia May Johnson, 87, of North Berwick passed away to be with her Lord and Savior on April 5, 2023, at Pinnacle Health & Rehab in Sanford after a very long illness.

Sylvia was born at home in Biddeford and moved to Wells shortly after. She attended Wells schools until she married at a young age. She raised her eight children, giving each personal care and making everyone feel special and important.

During her early years, she and her family lived in Wells, West Point, NY, North Berwick, Rhode Island and Connecticut. She had a very strong work ethic and was employed by several factories and nursing homes, including what is now Pinnacle in North Berwick.

In 1977 Sylvia married Ray Johnson and they lived in Kittery for 37 years. In 2007 Sylvia suffered a severe stroke that left her with complete dementia. Her husband Ray took loving care of her at their home in Kittery until he passed away in 2014. They enjoyed life together and loved each other dearly. She was continually active at Faith Baptist Church in Kittery for many years, expressing her faith in her Lord and Savior.

Sylvia’s passion was for her children and grandchildren. Sylvia is survived by: her daughters Gladys Murray of North Berwick, Ernestine Place of North Berwick, Holland Smith of Lebanon, Sylvia Healy-Knox of Wells, Sandra Clough of North Berwick, Kathleen Roberts of Dover, NH and Christine Valentine of Rochester, NH. Her oldest son, Roscoe Smith passed away recently in Orlando, Florida. Sylvia has 21 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 19th at 11:00 a.m. at the North Lebanon Second Baptist Church, 259 Baker Grant Road, where you are cordially invited to visit with the family beginning at 10:00 a.m at the church. Immediately following the service, committal prayers and burial will be held at Brooks Memorial Cemetery in Eliot, Maine..
