Obituary for Roger J. Wilson

Roger J. Wilson, 92, a well-known business owner, who owned Roger’s Restaurant from 1979 – 1987 in Waterboro, died on August 15, 2022 at St. Andre’s Health Care Facility in Biddeford.

Roger was born on January 10, 1930 at home in Stockholm, the son of Roger H. and Leona (Lozier) Wilson.

He lived all over Maine, as his family traveled to find employment. As he often shared, “My education came from hard work and life lessons along the way.”

Roger met his wife Gilda Gray while he was working as an usher at the Capital Theater on Main Street in Sanford. The spark of love was lit, and they knew they were meant to be with one another and soon married in 1948.

When Roger began his baking and cooking career, he worked at the Ideal Restaurant and became their pastry chef; making French bread that would melt in your mouth and delicious desserts. At his restaurant, his regulars enjoyed smothered beef, boiled dinners, and fresh turkey dinners every Sunday, all at reasonable prices.

Roger was devoted to his wife Gilda as she suffered from Multiple Sclerosis. She never complained and worked sewing doll clothes for the Tootsie Doll Company. They enjoyed day trips together and driving to the beach. He was generous with his family and never hesitated to help them.

Roger loved to spend time in his wood working shop, making silhouettes out of wood. He had the stagecoach & horse on the back of his garage, and it could be seen from his home on Waterboro Road. He kept his home tidy and the lawn trimmed. He was immensely proud of his “older” rusty brown color truck.

Roger has now entered into eternal rest and is once again reunited with his wife Gilda.

Survivors include his daughter, Lynn Wilson of Waterboro and son Robert Wilson of Medical Lake, Washington; three grandchildren: Lorne (Loni), Green of Waterboro; Chad and Justin Green of Lyman; two great granddaughters Alexis and Olivia Green, and three great grandsons Justin Green, Jr., Cayden, and Jackson Green; and brother Joseph (Bob) Wilson of Virginia; and one niece and one nephew.

A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Pine Grove Cemetery South, West Road in Waterboro.
