Robert Gobeil, 93, a longtime resident of East Waterboro, died on Friday, January 21, 2022 at the Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford. Robert was born on February 12, 1928, the son of Laureat and Carlyss (Stone) Gobeil. He attended school in town and graduated from Biddeford High School. Bob furthered his education to become a machinist with an emphasis in research and development. He also owned a local market on North Street in Saco for eight years or better. Robert served in the U.S Navy from 1946 to 1950 and shared many stories of his time with fellow sailors. Robert married Lea in 1979 at St. Philips Church in Lyman where they were active parishioners. Together they traveled in their motor home throughout the United States where many memories were shared from their trips to Italy, Germany and cruising the Caribbean Islands and discovering the heritage of Mexico. Robert loved Waterboro and was instrumental in getting Gobeil Park & Recreation with the boat launch on Little Ossipee. This provided swimming, picnic tables, and grills for use during cookouts.  He served on the Water Department, The Food Pantry and worked every other weekend at the transfer station. Robert enjoyed visiting with his many friends and neighbors. He helped coordinate Old Home Days and was a Charter Member of the Eagles, and was Past Commander of the VFW in Rockland, Massachusetts. He and Lea enjoyed dancing at the American Legion Hall. Robert was known for his perpetual weekend yard sales which he called “Trash-n-Treasures.” He was extremely outgoing, lived a generous life, and left his mark on life. He is now reunited with his wife Lea who passed November 23, 2021, and his sister, Dorothy. Robert is survived by his children: Richard Gobeil, Nancy Hurley, Elizabeth Wyman, and Robert D. Gobeil; his stepchildren: Diane Boissonneault of Sanford; Two sons Maurice Cadorette and wife Betty of Biddeford and Richard Cadorette of East Waterboro; his sister Beverly and seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. A Graveside Service with military honors will be held on Friday, March 25, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery, 83 Stanley Road, in Springvale.
