Obituary for Robert Eugene "Bob" Fortin

Robert Eugene Fortin, 71, of Shapleigh, passed away March 30, 2023. He was born January 27, 1952 in Sanford.

Bob graduated from Massabesic High School in 1971. In August of 1972 he enlisted into the U.S. Navy and proudly served our country for 20 years. After completing bootcamp in October of 1972, he married his high school sweetheart, Anita Payeur.

Following his honorable service, Bob worked as a Machinist for Auget, Thomas Betts, and Parker until his retirement in 2010.

Bob loved to joke around and tell “Dad jokes”. He was gentle, which made children and animals love him. He enjoyed car shows, riding motorcycles, model planes, and uniquely designing vehicles. He volunteered for Operation Ray of Light for seven years, was often a chaperone on his children’s school trips, and a member of the American Legion.

Bob was preceded in death by: his parents, Napoleon and Lorraine (Langlais) Fortin; step-dad, Emile Lantagne; and siblings, Alphee, Mark, and Mary. He is survived by: his wife of 50 years, Anita Fortin of Shapleigh; children, John Fortin and his wife, Michelle of Limerick, Emile Fortin of Shapleigh, and Tammy Roberts and her husband, Steven of Alfred; siblings, Norman, Anna, Janet, Laura, and Richard; grandchildren, Angie, Allen, Abigail, Lilly, Emily, Jailinn, Rylie, and Ashley; great-grandchildren, Alex, Gracelynn, and Piper; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will take place from 12:00 – 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at Bibber Memorial at Autumn Green, 47 Oak St., Alfred. Interment with military honors will take place at 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Springvale. Anyone wishing to attend the interment is invited to process with the family from Bibber Memorial at Autumn Green at 12:30 PM or meet at the cemetery at 1:00 PM.
