Obituary for Robert W. Delaney

Robert William Delaney passed away on March 7th, 2023. He was born Feb. 27th, 1966, in Queens N.Y. From the earliest ages Rob set himself apart as an exceptional athlete, student, and most importantly, friend. His sense of humor was the perfect setup to see his wonderful smile. It was a smile that made others smile. Rob’s passion for baseball and his work ethic turned him into a formidable pitcher from the get-go. It reached a crescendo when, at 13 years old, he pitched a seven inning, 21 strikeouts, no hitter. His success in sports and academics earned him a spot at Archbishop Molloy High School, one of the premier schools in the Catholic High School Athletic Association. Rob pitched and played outfield and then continued at Queens College, playing for the Knights as well.

Rob also enjoyed traveling. Two of his more exotic trips were an extended stay in India and a trip to Cuba when borders were first re-opened. It was in India that Rob learned to eat some of the spiciest food known to man, which put an end to hot wing challenges with him for the rest of us.

Rob moved to Maine full time following the path so many of his family had taken. He worked at Camp Waban in a job that enabled him to blossom into the kind person he was. Working there helping others reach their goals and take care of themselves gave Rob a deep feeling of satisfaction and pride in their successes. He often referred to his crew as “The Cowboys,” and genuinely relished their accomplishments.

Rob is from a giant family and his company was always enjoyed; he was beloved by many.

He is survived by his daughter Katie; his parents, Pat and Bob; his sister Coleen and her husband Bill; his brother Mike and his fiancée Andrea; three nephews: Russell, Ed, and Michael; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister Deborah.

An hour of visitation will be held from 1:00 - 2:00 PM followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Rd., Wells.
