Paul E. Fortin died peacefully on March 8, 2023 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, after a brief illness at the age of 91. Paul was born on May 19, 1931, in Sanford, Maine to Florent and Cecile (Dube) Fortin. He grew up in Sanford with his parents and four siblings.

In his youth, he was an avid hunter, fisherman and camper. Throughout his entire life, he loved to travel the Eastern Seaboard all the way to Canada. He worked with road construction and Cyro from 1956 to 1993. After retirement he became an enthusiastic hiker, gardener, and volunteered at the Sanford Soup Kitchen.

In the summer of 1970, he met the love of his life, Ghyslaine Landry. They soon became engaged in December of 1970 and were then married in August of 1971. Together they had a daughter, Michelle, and raised her in Sanford, Maine. Throughout their life together they loved to eat out, walk the beach, visit family and friends.

As he grew older, he loved taking care of his three grandchildren as well as watching them play sports and attend school functions.

Paul was a devout Catholic and communicant of Holy Family Church (St. Therese of Lisieux Parish. He was also a Knights of Columbus (Fourth Degree).

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish Holy Family Catholic Church, 66 North Ave., in Sanford.

Paul is survived by his wife Ghyslaine of 52 years, their daughter Michelle Fortin-Hill and her husband Maurice Hill, as well as their children Rhys, Rhylie, and Aiden, all of Sanford; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings; Napoleon, Lucille, Mary-Jane, and Edward.
