Obituary for Norman L. Edgerly Jr.

March 29, 1930 - April 19, 2022 Service Date: At the request of the family, there will be no services. Norman L. Edgerly, Jr. 92, beloved husband and devoted father, passed in the comfort of his home with family by his side. Norman was born on March 29, 1930 in Sanford, the son of Norman L. Sr. and Aldea Greenwood Edgerly. Norman was raised in Sanford and attended local schools. As a youngster the value of challenging work began with delivering ice door-to-door. He worked in the woods logging with a set of Draft horses and milked dairy cows at the farm with Brothers of Christian Instruction in Alfred. As a teenager, he would meet his future wife living next door in the neighborhood. Their courtship interrupted as Norman enlisted in the U.S. Army and served four years during the Korean War. Upon his return to his hometown, Norman married the joy and light of his life, Yvonne Pelletier on “Trick-a-Treat” October 30, 1954. They were blessed with four children that kept the household busy. Yvonne was the “back bone” of the family and worked full time at the shoe shop. Norm was the “bread winner” and worked for the Town of Sanford as a truck driver and doing road maintenance. Norman was happiest when he was playing his guitar and singing. Special nights were when his family and friends would get together on Saturdays for a Jam session. He whistled everyplace he went and even trained the animals (and kids) to come home or to the barn. His radio was tuned to one station – the one that played Classic Country Music. His kids remember going to the Acton and Fryeburg Fairs and the night he got in for free because he had to pick up grain and hay before going to the fair, he had to put his animal’s feed in the back of the station wagon. The kids had a night of games and rides from saving the entrance fee! Norman was very patriotic and believed in serving his country and those in need. He was a strong man in stature, yet his heart was tender towards his family and his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He belonged to the Amvets, VFW and American Legion, all in Sanford. Our hearts break from losing you, but we know you have entered into eternal peace and rest. Survivors include his helpmate and wife Yvonne Edgerly, his children: Dennis and Bruce Edgerly, Linda Stone and husband Larry, and David Edgerly and wife Lori (Bear); grandchildren: Mark and wife Heather, Kevin, Donny and Crystal, Gary and Nicole, and Benjamin; great-grandchildren: Tyler, Brandon, Johnathen, Kaylee, Landon, Jayce, Kristin, and Shawn. At the request of the family, there will be no services. In Norman’s memory, please consider a donation to the American Legion, 656 Main St., Springvale, ME 04083. Arrangements entrusted to Bibber Memorial at Autumn Green, 47 Oak St., in Alfred.
