Obituary: Maurice E. St. Clair
Dateline: Lyman

Maurice E. St.Clair, age 75, passed away at home and met Jesus face to face March 10, 2023.

He was born March 18, 1947 in Biddeford to Glenyes St. Clair. His father, Maurice E. St. Clair (Sr.) passed away 3 months before he was born. He spent the first nine years of his life living with his mother, grandparents Walter and Myrtie Smith and aunt Marshalyne in the family home in Lyman. He moved to Alfred when his mother married David Stone. He spoke fondly of his childhood years growing up on the Stone family farm.

Maurice attended Cousens Elementary, Alfred Elementary and graduated from Sanford High School in 1965. He obtained an associate’s degree from the University of Southern Maine.

Maurice married Nancy (Wentworth) on Dec. 24, 1967 at the Alfred Congregational Church. They began their married life in Goodwins Mills. Maurice remained a resident of Lyman for the rest of his life moving back to his childhood home in 1976 following the death of his grandmother.

Maurice was a self-employed excavator and in his later years was involved in land development in Lyman and the surrounding communities with his cousin Walter Smith. Throughout the years, he provided significant service to the Town of Lyman. Maurice served in various roles including Road Commissioner for 35 years, Budget Committee for 36 years, Library Board of Directors for 24 years, Goodwins Mills Fire & Rescue, and represented Lyman on the Eco-Maine Board for many years.

No one can describe Maurice without discussing his devotion to his family and his church. Making sure his boys got to cheer on the Massabesic Mustangs at various athletic events or taking his grandkids to Beech Ridge so they could share in his love of stock car racing were high priorities for him. He was a member at Curtis Lake Church where he led classes, facilitated home group and was very involved in the Global Outreach ministry. His faith was foundational in everything he did.

Maurice called many people friend and always looked forward to getting together and having a good conversation with friends and family.

He was predeceased by his father Maurice E. St. Clair, his mother Glenyes Stone and his stepfather David Stone.

Maurice is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy; his children Laurie Brady & Shawn Small of Lewiston; Melissa & Brant Van Orman of Grand Haven, MI; Barbara, David and Alex St. Clair, all of Lyman.
