Obituary for Lucien J. Bourque

Lucien J. Bourque
April 13, 1943 – May 6, 2023

Dateline: New Port Richey, Florida
And formerly, Keywood Manor in Alfred, Maine

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lucien Joseph Bourque on May 6, 2023, with his loving wife, Valerie, by his side in New Port Richey, Florida.

Lucien was born in Biddeford, Maine, on April 13, 1943, to Simonne (Landry) Bourque and Leo Bourque.

A member of the class of ‘63, Lou graduated from St. Louis High School in Biddeford, then enrolled in the US Army, serving from 1964 to 1968 as a Flight Operations Specialist.

On October 15, 1966, he married the love of his life, Valerie, and together they raised three children.

Lou joined the family business of Landry’s Linen Service and eventually formed a separate business with his brother and brother-in-law, manufacturing and installing large linen folder stackers for commercial laundries. After the business was sold years later, Lou stayed on as a Service Engineer, continuing to travel, throughout the US and internationally, to assist with installations and service consults.

In his spare time, Lucien enjoyed being inventive and resourceful at fixing things and tinkering. He dabbled in gardening, boating, camping, and building projects. Lucien was always there to help when there was a need, whether it was plowing out most of the neighborhood when a snowstorm hit, rescuing others with a vehicle stuck in the mud, or pitching in to trim trees or perform other maintenance at his retirement community in Winter Haven, Florida. He was proud to decorate his and Val’s Miata with lights and décor to head the Christmas Light Golf Cart parade in his community.

Lucien is survived by his wife of 56 years, Valerie A. (Racine) Bourque, his daughter, Elizabeth (Lisa) Hynes, and her husband, Jeffrey Hynes; his daughter, Jennifer Marnell, and her husband, Marcus Marnell; and his son, Thomas Bourque, and his wife, Gillian (Knotts) Bourque. He was a proud Pepère to three grandchildren, Nicholas Marnell, Simonne Hynes, and Juni Hynes. He is also survived by his sister, Marguerite (Bourque) Dubois, and his three brothers, Leo Bourque with his wife, Connie, Michel with his wife, Penny, and Marc with his wife Pat, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service with military honors will take place at Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery, 83 Stanley Rd, Springvale on Wednesday, May 24th at 1:00 p.m. A celebration of life will follow immediately after the ceremony at the Community Center of Keywood Manor, 85 Pools Crossing Rd in Alfred.
