February 19, 1958 - January 12, 2022 Service Date: Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2022 from 5 - 6:30 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 62 Cemetery Road in Berwick. John Stephen Chadbourne, 63, beloved husband, father, brother, and uncle, passed on January 12, 2022, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital in New Hampshire. John was born in Saco on February 19, 1958, the son of Floyd J. and Gwendolyn M. (Cluff) Chadbourne. He was raised in North Berwick and attended Noble High School then transferred to the Sanford High School Vocational Tech building trade program. As a family, we celebrated his graduation. John acquired the nickname: Chad and was proud to share that name with his father. John always pushed the envelope so speak, whether playing competitive ice hockey with the neighborhood kids or playing basketball or baseball. He was a natural athlete and with his strong right arm an excellent pitcher. John and his sister Tammy, who was his catcher and called the pitches would go nine innings back-n-forth. Lower Main Street was our back yard, with the train tracks being our boundary line – while for most of us – not John! He enjoyed hunting each fall with his father and brother Jonathan and fishing. As a teenager, Chad became his own person and grew his hair long (down to his waist – to the chagrin of his parents!) He also wore a long coat – like the one Sgt Schulz wore in the television program Hogan’s Heroes in the late 60’s early 70’s. It was during these years that Chad’s taste in music changed to Hard Rock & Roll, Led Zeplin, and Ozzie Osborne. Chad remained friends with many of his buddies from childhood and they were quite the group. John was loyal and though he tried to be a tough guy, he was very sentimental, loved children, his family, and animals. When John was ready to settle down, he met and married Joanne Detullio of Wells and they shared their heart and home with daughter Catie. They have been married since 1989 and weathered the good and tough times together. John was a diligent worker, working primarily as a welder for Kingston& Warren in Newfields, NH for thirty-five plus years. At the end of his working career, he operated a Die Cutting Press. John and Joanne took long rides together and one of their favorite vacations was at the Stowe Mountain Resort, in Vermont. He loved playing pool and going out dancing. He was a Red Sox fan and rooted for the LA Lakers. Chad remained loyal to the Steelers football team and collected tons of sports memorabilia with all his favorite teams. John was “over the moon” when his granddaughter Audrey was born. He and Joanne were continually active in her life and enormously proud when she started college at UNH. John, you left our lives and hearts too early. . . We will never forget your half grin smile, playing air guitar before it was the “in thing” and so much more. We will miss you and know that you have be reunited with those you loved and missed. Rest easy and be at peace. He is lovingly survived by his wife Joanne Chadbourne of Milton, NH; his daughter Catherine Cahoon and husband Luke and their daughter Audrey of Dover, NH; his siblings: Tammy Chadbourne of Alfred; Sandy Goodale and husband Russ of Wells; Kelly McGuire of Fort Kent; and Jonathan Welch and wife Debbie of Kennebunk; and several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his parents and brother David M. Cluff. Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Thursday, January 20, 2022 from 5 – 6:30 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life Service at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 62 Cemetery Road in Berwick.
