Gladys was born on January 6, 1928 at home on Essex St., in Sanford the daughter of Charles W. and Gertrude F. (Lockhart) Brown, Sr. Her family moved to Alfred and lived on Gore Road from 1932 – 1937 and in 1939 they moved to Upper Main Street in Springvale. When World War II started, the family moved in 1944 to Elm St. in Springvale. Gladys graduated from Sanford High School in 1945 and began working at the Sanford Goodall Mills beginning in 1944 until 1950. On January 22, 1950, Gladys married George R. Roberts and moved to the family home on Federal Street, which was on a dirt road, and had an outhouse. They lived upstairs at the farmhouse with George’s parents living downstairs. They were blessed with three daughters, Marilyn, Joyce, and Ellen. George owned his own construction business and together he and Gladys started their own business at their house in 1962, fabricating septic tanks. The business was moved to Route 111 in 1982 and they retired in 1985. Gladys and George enjoyed 32 years of retirement, traveling to Germany, Alaska, Hawaii, Bermuda and spending time with family and friends in Florida. They also explored the Grand Canyon, Oregon, California and closer to home, Vermont. Gladys enjoyed writing poetry and spent many happy years at their camp on Loon Pond and later at Ossipee Lake. She was a member of the North Alfred Baptist Church, president of the Ladies Aid and sang in the choir before attending the South Waterboro Bible Chapel. Gladys sewed throughout her life and taught many others to sew. She sewed over two hundred dresses for ‘Dress a Girl Around the World’ when she was 90 years young! Gladys was kind, laughed heartily and often. With her blue eyes twinkling with delight and pride, she talked about her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Gladys possessed a deep faith and lived a life of caring and kindness towards all. She will be dearly missed, and she has been reunited with her Lord and loved ones who have been called to their eternal home. She is lovingly survived by her three daughters, Marilyn Tosi and husband David of Florida; Joyce Violette and husband Philip of Shapleigh and Ellen Morrison and husband Paul of Alfred; her special grandchildren: Steve and Shannon Violette, Stacey and Ken Moulton, Rachel Morrison, Timothy Morrison and wife Addiana; and Toby Luman; and three great grandchildren Makayla Moulton and companion Sam Foglio; Kelsie Moulton and Penny Morrison; and brother-in-law, Paul Roberts and wife Ruby MacLellan of Sanford.
