Obituary for Brian T. Chapais

Brian T. Chapais, 61, a loving husband and beloved Dad, passed in the comfort of his home, with his family by his side on September 6, 2022. He fought a courageous battle with cancer, but the disease did not define his life or diminish his love for his family.

Brian was born in Sanford on July 27, 1961, the son of Lionel and Theresa (Payeur) Chapais. He was raised in town and was a graduate of Sanford High School. Following high school Brian enlisted into the US Army serving from 1979 – 1982.

Upon returning to his home state of Maine, Brain began working for George Roberts Company in Alfred and one day met his future soulmate and wife, Janet M. Wodraska, while she cashed out his purchase at the Alfred Country Store. The spark began and they soon were together as a couple, followed by getting married and becoming a large, blended family.

Brian was a talented woodworker and carpenter. Many of his designed kitchens are the envy of the neighborhood! He made beautiful cabinets out of birds’ eye maple, staining them to bring out the minute details within the grain of wood.

Brian was a family-oriented person through and through. He loved having people over for the holidays and was an excellent cook and grill master! He made the best steak and prime rib. Even during his treatments and unable to enjoy food, he would be the first one in the kitchen preparing Thanksgiving dinner. He tended a large vegetable garden each year and shared his bounty with his family and friends.

Many memories were made from family camping trips and celebrations at their home. Sunday dinners were extra special, and everyone had a seat at the table. His heart and love was true and genuine. We will miss his smile, laughter, and the smell of his wonderful entrées he created.

Brian is survived by his mother, Theresa, his loving wife Janet, his children: Christopher, Joshua, Michael, Monica, Corinne, Jordan, and Jonathan; his brothers: Thomas, Richard, Jerry, and David; sister Chrissy, and many grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Brian was predeceased by his father Lionel and brother William.

A Graveside Service with military honors will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at the So. Maine Veterans Cemetery, 83 Stanley Road, in Springvale.
